These excellent courses are taught by experienced and trained professionalism our well-equipped art studios and are designed to bring out your child's creativity and artistic abilities in an enjoyable atmosphere. 

Guided visits to the adjacent art gallery are included in all courses. 

For children 5 to 12 years old 

8 weeks from September 29 to November 23 in the Art Studios located on the lower level of the Dollard Cultural Centre, 12001 de Salaberry Blvd.  All materials are included.

** all non- residents of Dollard-des-Ormeaux should pay the "Others"rate.

 

ART FOR SMALL HANDS  (8 weeks)

for 3 to 5 year olds

Tuesday (Sept.30) 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Teacher: Shiva Kaffash Mohammadi

This course is designed for children looking for an artistic and exciting activity.  Create innovative sculptures, masks, puppets. prints and paintings by exploring a variety of art media.

DRAWING AND PAINTING (8 weeks)

An introduction to drawing and painting especially designed for the young artist. The students will be introduced to color theory, composition, line and various painting & drawing media through a series of age-appropriate art activities. The emphasis is on the development of a visual language based on the child’s own artistic self-expression.

DRAWING AND PAINTING (8 weeks)

9 to 11 years

A good opportunity for children to develop their drawing and painting skills while   learning to use artist level materials: acrylic and watercolor paints, pastels, ink and pencil. Concentration on technique and self-expression.

CREATING WITH CLAY (8 weeks)

5  to 12 years

During this course, the children will create functional and sculptural pieces of clay while exploring the historical and cultural background of the medium. Hand building and wheel instruction. All work is glazed and fired.

SUNDAY PARENT AND CHILD ART WORKSHOPS

2 to 4 years with the participation of a parent.

Spend a wonderful, creative time together exploring the fascinating world of art making: drawing, painting, sculpture, masks, prints, puppets.  All materials are included.

LET'S BE ARTISTS   (5 to 12 yrs)

Creative art activities allow the children to explore various art media: papermaking, papier maché, puppetry, mask making & clay sculpture.  Emphasis is on imagination, creativity and fun!

ANIMATION MOVIE MAKING

(7 to10 years)

8 weeks

Teacher: Andréanne Abbondanza­Bergeron

Location: Room 024

Make your own movies! This course is designed to introduce students to the techniques and methods used in making traditional as well as digitally enhanced, stop­motion animation movies. Students will learn to invent their own unique stories and film them, digitally editing 
them using iMovie software on an iMac.

THEATRE 1 - LET IT OUT!  (8 weeks)

This class is an introduction to theatre and storytelling through improvisation, creative drama games, and costumes. The children will be encouraged to develop good listening and projection skills that will help them to feel comfortable speaking in front of an audience. Our high energy classes allow children to develop their expressiveness and creativity, exercise their mind and body, and most of all, have fun!

THEATRE 2 - INTRO TO DRAMA : (8 weeks)

(8 - 12 years)

Location: Room 003 - Community Centre


Saturday (October 4)  11:30 am – 1 p.m.

This class focused on improvisation and drama games which are used to introduce key positions in the theatre as well as acting, storytelling, characterization, and movement.  Children have a whole bunch of fun while their self-confidence, expressiveness and creativity grow.

THEATRE 3 - ACTING FOR TEENS  (13 - 15 years) (8 weeks)

Instructor: Charlie Rossen & Megan Bradley 


Location: Room 003 - Community Centre


Saturday (October 4)  13:30 pm – 3 pm

This class uses improvisation to focus on more advanced instruction in characterization, scene development, mask work and the creating of audition pieces. Learn the differences between theatre and film acting and have a blast putting it all together into a short performance piece.

DRAWING AND PAINTING FOR TEENS

12 to 16 years
 (8 weeks)

Saturday (October 4): 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Location: Studio 1

In this session, this course will be focusing on the principals of drawing such as line, negative space, shading and value.  We will focus on the aspects of portraiture and how to achieve a realistic image.  Materials used will include pencil, charcoal and pen & ink.

CLAY SCULPTURE FOR TEENS  

12 to 16 years
 (8 weeks)

Sunday (October 5): 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Teacher: Cheryl Miller

Location: Studio 1

Students will explore the expressive and flexible medium of clay through a series of sculptural projects. Techniques of hand building will be covered as well as some wheel instruction. Emphasis will be placed on creativity and self-expression, and each student will be encouraged to develop his or her own style. All finished work will be glazed and fired.

HIP-HOP / STREET DANCE FOR TEENS: 

(9 to16 years)

10 weeks from September 28 to November 30

Sunday 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Teacher: Tracey Steele

Location: Room 003 Community Centre

Learn the latest hip-hop moves that you might see in some of your favorite music videos. This course also includes some breakdance moves and is popular with both boys and girls at the beginner and intermediate levels. The emphasis is on proper dance technique, coordination and flexibility. The choreography will be presented in a demonstration class at the end of the session.

MUSIC COURSES


Piano and guitar take place at the Dollard Cultural Centre 12001 de Salaberry Boulevard.  Please indicate the three preferred times on the registration form. Returning students must register by September 5th, 2008 to keep their existing time. Space for new students is very limited.  New registrations  will be placed on a waiting list and contacted in the the two weeks before the first class to be advised if space is available in the schedule.

One half hour or 1 hour per week.

Suitable for beginners and more advanced players alike this course is designed to give you the skills to play the guitar music you want.  All styles of music: Classical, jazz and popular method.

BEGINNERS TAM TAM   (Adults)

10 weeks from September 25 to November 27

Thursday 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Location: Spring Garden Chalet

Instructor: James Olmsted

Come and groove to the beat in this non-competitive music experience! No previous training necessary. Basic drum techniques can be learned in minutes. A group of first timers can be playing synchronized rhythms by the end of the first class. We provide the drums in class! The
emphasis is on fun and relaxation. Bring your enthusiasm and we’ll do the rest!

12 weeks from September 23 to December 14

Emphasis is on appreciation of music and introduction to the basic aspects of musical training. The course explores reading musical scores, counting to rhythm in scores, proper hand position and techniques, musical signs and terms, sight reading and musical interpretation. Experienced students can be prepared for Conservatory exams.

REGISTRATION FOR FALL COURSES.

From now, until the first day of the course (as long as there is still space), register at the Sports, Recreation and Culture Department from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1:15 to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday or drop your form and attached cheque in the mail slot of the Dollard Centre for the Arts Office downstairs (Room E008). You can also mail your registration form and cheque to The Dollard Centre for the Arts at 12001 De Salaberry Boulevard, D.D.O. H9B 2A7 or fax your form with your Visa or Mastercard credit card number to 514­684­8885. There will also be registration days held on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 26 and 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Arena 1 of the Dollard Civic Centre.

The Dollard Centre for the Arts reserves the right to cancel any course for which there is insufficient registration; in such a case, a full refund will be given. A $20.00 cancellation fee per student, per course and / or a charge for each class attended will be deducted from any emergency cancellation. No refund will be given after the first class. There will be a fee of $20.00 for any cheque returned by the bank. We reserve the right to postpone classes due to unforeseen circumstances. If you are registering more than one person, please make a copy of the registration form and send one form per person. Please note that when there are three members of the same immediate family registering in the same session, there is a 20% discount on the third, least expensive course.
