These excellent courses are taught by experienced and trained professionals in our well-equipped art studios and are designed to bring out your child's creativity and artistic abilities in an enjoyable atmosphere. 

Guided visits to the adjacent art gallery are included in all courses. 

For children 5 to 12 years old 

8 weeks from January 24 to March 18 in the Art Studios located on the lower level of the Dollard Cultural Centre, 12001 de Salaberry Blvd.  All materials are included.

*** all non- residents of Dollard-des-Ormeaux should pay the "Others"rate.

**This course is eligible for the new Children's Arts Tax Credit

CREATING WITH CLAY ** (8 weeks)

5  to 12 years

During this course, the children will create functional and sculptural pieces of clay while exploring the historical and cultural background of the medium. Hand building and wheel instruction. All work is glazed and fired.

DRAWING AND PAINTING ** (8 weeks)

Designed for the young artist students will be introduced to the language of art while drawing and painting. They will be immersed in a series of age­ appropriate art activities and experiment in a variety of media. The emphasis is on the development of a visual language based on the child's own artistic expression.

DRAWING AND PAINTING PLUS ** (8 weeks)

Budding artists can develop their artistic skills while learning to use artist level materials; acrylic and watercolour paints, pastels, ink, pencil and collage. Concentration on technique and self­ expression.

FILM ANIMATION - LEVEL 1 **

Make your own movies! This course will introduce students to the techniques and 
methods used in making animated movies including drawing directly on film, Pixilation, Cut­out, Clay animation and Stop­Motion. Learn each of these techniques while creating your own unique stories and characters.

Sunday February 12

FAMILY TREASURES

1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

During this workshop, you will create two art projects to hold your family ‘treasures’

1. A memory box – using mosaic and stencil prints.
2. A family album – make your own zig-zag journal to hold pictures and family memories.
Participants are encouraged to bring in photocopies of favourite family photos to use in these projects.

Sunday February 26

MOSAIC MADNESS!!

1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Using a variety of mosaic materials and techniques, you will create two art projects to display in your home!

1. A mosaic picture frame to hold family photos.
2. A mosaic wall piece.




THEATRE FOR YOUTH  (Bilingual)

This class is an introduction to the world of the Theatre. Through various games, your children will learn improvisation, storytelling and other acting techniques with the focus of cast building and learning to work together. Your children will also have the opportunity to explore movement and vocal techniques. With a great mix of new activities as well as classic
class favourites, your children will have a blast learning to be confident on stage!

THEATRE 2 - THEATRE EXPLORATION **
 
(10 weeks)

Saturday (Jan. 28)  11:30 am – 1 p.m.

This class is a more in-depth look at the world of the Theatre. Using a variety of fun games and professional acting exercises, your children will build their self-confidence along with their acting repertoire. They will be learning new skills such
as characterization, plot structure, stage formation, simple script work and proper stage presence. Through new games and our favourite classics, your kids will be encouraged to work together and help each other become great actors!

THEATRE 3 - PROFESSIONAL PERFORMERS  (10 weeks)  **

12 - 16 years)

Location: Room 003 - Community Centre

Saturday (Jan. 28)  1:30 pm – 3 pm

Learn to do it all! This class covers any and all interests of the students. Be it through improvisation, film, directing, stage managing, characterization, scene development, movement or voice, the teens will build their trust in themselves and in the other performers around them. In a fun, friendly and professional environment, students will find out what it takes to be on stage and behind the scenes.

REGISTRATION FOR WINTER COURSES.

From now, until the first day of the course (as long as there is still space), register online (www.dollardartcentre.com) or at the Recreation Department from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1:15 to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday or drop your form and attached cheque in the mail slot of the Dollard Centre for the Arts Office downstairs (Room E008). You can also mail your registration form and cheque to the Dollard Centre for the Arts at 12001 De Salaberry Boulevard, D.D.O., QC, H9B 2A7 or fax your form with your Visa or Mastercard credit card number to 514-684-8885. Dollard residents registering with the Dollard Centre for the Arts for the first time must include proof of residency (driver’s licence, Hydro bill). The Dollard Centre for the Arts reserves the right to cancel any course for which there is insufficient registration; in such a case, a full refund will be given. A $20.00 cancellation fee per student, per course and/or a charge for each class attended will be deducted from any emergency cancellation. No refund will be given after the first class. There will be a fee of $20.00 for any cheque returned by the bank. We reserve the right to postpone classes due to unforeseen circumstances. If you are registering more than one person, please make a copy of the registration form and send one form per person. Please note that when there are three members of the same immediate family residing at the same address registering in the same session, there is a 20% discount on the third, least expensive course.

The Dollard Centre for the Arts reserves the right to photograph classes, artwork and/or performances to publicize these programs.

The spring schedule will be available in early March 2012.
